Saorsa

Just working on some quick backgrounds...they're getting better but i'm still kinda irked by them.

Saorsa being all pirate-in-the-wind-ey.

enjoy!

Colored

Colored Sketches from my previous post, this post will be edited once others are colored.

Pete with lighting experimentation as well and lines that i don't usually use, thought it looked cool :)

Blondies Sketchdump

Some quick realism practice i did today. I wanted to work with some different angles and expressions because i tend to use the same ones over and over again.

So here are everybody's favorite blondies pete (lighter hair) and Will (darker). I'll probably end up finishing a few of these such as the upper Petes and the center Will.

Blue Sky

A realistic Alexia :). I wanted a softer style then usual for this.

also, strangely enough I found a reference picture that was exactly what i had imagined and it turned out the girl, an actress called Taylor Dooley, was the same ethnic mix as Alexia - irish/lakota souix. weird.

The Return of Photoshop/CS5

Whew! I'm all set up to my most current art-took long enough! Anyways with the arrival of CS5 I was no longer Photoshop deprived and I'm whipping through tons of sketches at the moment.

Tristran, Saorsa, and Faelan being all brother/sisterly

A quick Alexia (Pete's girl...and Thonolan's) graphic. But I couldn't think of what to say in the bubble. Also- blue and green for my little sister

Dazed and Confused

A pencil realism of Dean from Supernatural that I drew during April and onward while my sister was touring colleges. The CW had released some awesome pictures with dramatic lighting from the ep. The Man Who Would Be King and I had to draw it. And a Led Zep title of course.

Cake Adventure

A cake I made for the literary bake-off final in my English Lit. Class. I read Game of Thrones ( that series is a new love...read it.) It was my first time making a cake and decorating it as well.

I made homemade fondant out of marshmallows and lots of sugar and the edible paints were made of egg yolk and food coloring.

On the cake is Jon Snow and Ghost the direwolf as well as the Stark words 'winter is coming'. Around the edge of the the cake were ravens in a flying sequence.

Art That Happened Before I Got a Mac

So around the end of March, my PC had gotten so bad that my parents decided I could get my graduation gift- a macbook pro- early. Now the computer is wonderful, but my ancient photoshop elements 4 didn't work on it so I was deprived on Adobe products until recently. These are the works I got done before the PC failed.

Layla, a shifter, and the grandmother of Aliyana and Kymah (below) in a more ceremonial sort of outfit; usually her face paint is black.

(below) Kymah the sister of Ishana and her boy/love Dorchagus aka Dark. Originally I had planned them to have clothing but I was happy with the pose and felt clothes might ruin it. So nudity yay!

Doodles from School

Some quick doodles done at school with their ancient bamboo tablets...which is quite a change from the wonderful cintiq that I have...hence the quality change...

This is Rehema, a character that lives very far north.
This is Eli, Thonolan's niece and the daughter of the Pirate Girl, Keira in one of my older posts.

Characters I Don't Draw Often

Some characters I don't draw often, for various reasons done end of Feb. and into March. At the top you have all four of Thonolan's offspring.

(Left) Ishana aka Dethia, blind and bit insane, half sister of Gormal and Aliyana

(below) Pete aka Mikhail, Misha, Mishmish etc. Is Thonolan's good friend and what seems to be a favorite character amongst my friends who have read parts of my book.

Unforgiven + Closeups

Some Supernatural (my favorite tv show) related work. I super-detailed the face as you can see in the closeup but got a bit bored by the time I moved onto the background/body area...plus it was just not cooperating so I settled for Metallica lyrics in the wind.

Forest Portraits 1

More art from February. Anyways I call these Forest Portraits mostly because i tend to do backgrounds like that and it ends up looking nice for character portraits.

Realism Thonolan based of the sketch in my last post. Yay! Freckles!
Another feature mash up, this time with Tristran, son of Will.

February Realism/ Commissions

Some February Realism pieces I did for fun, worked on them a lot during school when the freshman I was a Teacher's Assistant for were doing a project. Also the last two were portrait commissions.
I do these for quick money, plus realism is always good practice for anything really.

Just a quick Eddie Redmayne, I was watching the show Pillars of the Earth (also one of my fav books) at the time. He has different sorta features...

Another realism Thonolan, I do a lot of these because my mental image wasn't as clear as I wanted it to be. This is pretty darn close though.

My dog Lilly that I drew as an example for customers. This one was done last June I believe...before my dog had an accident with our car door and had to have half her tail amputated.

This was a portrait I drew for the neighbor of my grandparents whose dog Izzy had died. She was a husky mix and a bit pudgy.

January= Blue

Getting into 2011 finally! Anyways these are some slightly older works from January and as you can see, it was obviously a very...ahem blue time.

This first one was of my character Cadan and was a final project for my Gothic Imagination class. I still love this one...it's my desktop still.

These three things were a request from one of my friends who wanted the children of her favorite character of mine draw. So Sam, Damien, and Caite were drawn for the first time- they're 1/4 black. :D
This one was supposed to be part of a larger piece but after being unsatisfied with the rest of it i scrapped it down to this- Gormal- yet another character, who can kill people by snapping his figures.

Sketches: Realism

Sketches from December that I set on a old paper texture to spice them up. Above is a Thonolan and below are two of Will, another main character of mine.
        (above) younger Will
        (left) older Will

Sketches: Woman/Sons

These colored sketches (Dec 2010) depicted the woman and sons of one of my main characters from my novel, Thonolan.

But I'm not going to post spoilers so the pictures are all you're getting :)

Whereabouts Unknown/Pirate Girl

More older art! Both of these are from December of 2010.

Whereabouts Unknown- more novel art again! Can you see this is a common theme? Tried a different sort of color scheme then usual, quite like it.

This one was done after christmas with a new type of tablet pen that I got. It has a different shape and a soft nib that simulates a real life brush better. I always use it now for getting a soft look.

This was also one of my facial feature mash ups (and novel art again). I tend to take different features from people and put them together to make a whole new person. That way my characters have a look of their own.

This one specifically was of a girl who doesn't age and has been alive since the 1800's.

Looking for Thonolan

Another older piece made in November 2010 that depicted a scene from my novel, its more conceptual and illustrative then my usual realism, but I still really like it and wish I could make more similar pieces

First Post/Quick Wolf Doodle

Hi! I really don't know what to say here other then this is my first post and I this is my art blog...oh well. I'm going to start also by posting some older works that I happen to still like, but nothing over a year old.
I supposed I could talk about myself a bit- my name is Callie Braceras and I'm going to the Columbus College of Art and Design in the fall (CCAD). Within my art you're going to see two styles- realism and cartoon, both have their pros and cons and I find it much more excited to have several style to work with then limiting myself with one.
You're also going to see a lot of art from the novel I am currently writing as well as some fan art and characters from other smaller stories.

This one was made around July on 2010 and was quite popular on deviantArt despite it being a colored sketch...dA sure loves its wolves. Anyways this was a small character of mine I created for a summer course as the Comic College in White River Jct. Vt. His name is Chris and he was a skin walker, I didn't do much more with him after this picture but the story is definitely worth re-exploring.
